I’ve seen TTC LRT operators on Line 5 come to a complete stop because of a jaywalker off of the alignment already (that’s a bit extreme but if they’re on the alignment, LRT should and does stop). One can argue driving should be taken more seriously but I’m not sure we can take rail less seriously.

Regarding jaywalking in Japan: one time I was waiting at a very small street crossing with a few other people. The jaywalker in me decided “screw it, I’m going”, and IIRC the others followed after I did it!

In 2019 i accidentally almost killed a jaywalker at night. I took him home with me. I couldn’t afford the legal trouble at the time, and it was the only way to shut him up. Eventually, as I nursed his health, he stopped bickering and began to fall in love with me. I married him this month.
