A phrase thats been rotating in my mind for a few years now is "The Jesuits are the Democratic Party of the Catholic Church". Do you think that rings true?

I went to a Jesuit high school (and college) and my mother was firmly of the opinion that those schools only produce two things: more Jesuits, and atheists.

i will say that in the US, i tend to notice that the religious order-run schools (those overseen by the Jesuits, the Sisters of Mercy) tend to be the first category and the diocese- and parish-run schools tend to be the latter

I was about to make a joke about how the Supreme Court's Catholics would never let that happen...and then I remembered which European monarchies were most hostile to the Jesuits in the 1700s

They’re going to wind up expelling the Jesuits from the USA if the trends continue

We all have a right to speak. Not like the Vatican isn't notorious for evil shit when the Jesuits was banned from becoming pope. Francis and Leo I have a greater respect for but that comes with criticism haha

Appointed president in May, Mr. Pool succeeds Karl Ertle, who is taking on a broader role with the Midwest Province of Jesuits.
St. John’s alumnus returns home with new role, familiar mission
Ask St. John’s Jesuit High School alumnus Michael Pool whether he ever thought he would become president of the school, and his answer is simple. “No, I ...

The Jesuits are the punk rockers of Catholicism. That was the Catholicism that resonated with me in my youth.

Seeing the nuns who ran Holy Cross Hospital, taking in the homeless, washing and clothing them when the for profit hospitals were literally turning them away.

That was love. True agape.

I wonder how "influencers" today know this history, or even care. The Reformation, the printing press, literacy - followed by so much war, including (literally) The Hundred Years' War, the Counter-Reformation and the Jesuits. It matters more than bubble butts in spandex.

I learned from the Jesuits that formal education should be a humbling experience, bc when you’re young you think you know about a thing and then you meet a guy who tells you that he’s been studying that thing for 45 years, gave up most worldly pleasures to read about it more.

I've always said - if Trump could see the pope's bedroom, he wouldn't dress up like him in an AI image, ha!

The last two popes have been Jesuits, who take a vow of poverty. They do a lot of self-sacrificing stuff. You'd admire them, like you do Jimmy Carter, if you knew more about them.

When I was doing my A level history, which was all reformation-y stuff, my teacher always used to use that phrase "Shock troops of the reformation" with great relish when discussing the Jesuits. They just need to be reactivated and - hang on, didn't the pope get given a green orb recently...gasp!!

📅 On this day in 1540, the Jesuits were founded — soon after, their missionaries were blazing trails across the Americas and Asia. No GPS, no trail markers, just grit. Respect.

Impressive, half a million students & a good mix of general and specialty colleges.
Being able to easily transfer credits gives a student a better shot at success as they find what they're good at.
I went to both parochial & tech schools.
Jesuits taught me discipline, tech taught me to build stuff.

They don't know, I think. The Jesuits are becoming aware of the school of thought Perennial Traditionalism is what it's called, but I'm not sure how much they're sharing and I'm not sure they fully understand the extent to which it's consumed Bannon's mind ) which is since the 90's at least).
