#journalism—I
Independent journalism is when you can write what Terry Moran wrote without getting in trouble.

Corporate journalism is when you can’t.

It’s why many left the latter for the former.

I understand the rationale behind corp journalism rules, I’m just glad they don’t apply to me

Dan Rather represents an era when journalism wasn't as polarized into political groups. I miss those days. 😭

A few words on journalism, risk and what I actually said.

i actually cannot handle this on any level. this is journalism malpractice.
this is, by definition, not an "immigration crackdown"

I think the worst thing about this cremieux disaster is that I see no clear evidence of capitalism compromising journalism, only journalists compromising journalism
some people say hyper-corporatization and -consolidation of the media is destroying this country, but on the other hand i hear the nyt cooking app works pretty well. so tradeoffs abound when you think about it.

Over at the newsletter I wrote about the unholy scourge that is "CEO said a thing!" journalism:
"CEO Said A Thing!" Journalism
"CEO said a thing!" journalism involves parroting the claims of a business leader or executive with absolutely no context, correction, or challenge whatsoever, no matter how elaborate the delusion.

If I were a magazine journalism assignment editor (and magazine journalism still existed), I would assign a reporter to simply aggregate all the stories of GOP sex creeps from the 21st century. Just list them & put them in one place. There are *hundreds*.

"Journalism is dying and also I don't want to pay for journalism" is another head-scratcher
Nobody wants to pay for anything and then wonders why everything is influenced by advertisers and the wealthy. It’s baffling.

I think the main problem with mainstream political journalism these days is the credibility given to clearly preposterous people

Journalism thread: I expose JD Vance as a “Buck Hunter” fraud

Oh, you don’t think access journalism is cool?

What if I did access journalism…….in aviators
Kara Swisher sees herself as tech’s bold truth teller, but her new memoir shows how her close ties to its power players clouded her judgment.

As she tries to rewrite her story, Swisher can’t escape her role in ushering in the disaster Silicon Valley has become.

In “Burn Book,” the longtime tech journalist tries to rewrite her story for the post-techlash era

One thing I really wish I could pound into the heads of the people at the Times is that some of us are neither trans nor activist but just think their trans coverage is dogshit journalism, as journalism
Ah but when you look at the historical example of gay marriage, the moderates who said civil unions were enough were wise and the extremists who wanted marriage equality were unnecessarily aggressive, and that is why the moderates won and gay people are content with only civil unions today
Also the Jeremy Peters piece has nothing to say on its own supposed terms—oh, a rights movement is a mix of accommodationists angling for compromise and more confrontational people demanding full empowerment, fascinating

i said this about the times but it applies to all legacy journalism

I feel bad for the profession of journalism, but this is tremendous content.

When I get down about what has become of journalism, of speaking the truth, I think of Jamal.

I lost my Washington Post job.

Jamal lost his life.

Both of us — all we wanted to do was write and help people.

It is fascism.
At a journalism event I asked about using the word so journalism can cover and explain it. I was told that we can't call fascists fascists because it would put off the fascists.
This is fascism. Those who refuse to identify it are not doing journalism.

I understand that supporting journalism is important and ads are unfortunately the way that usually happens, but it gets a bit ridiculous when I am supporting the journalism by accepting ads but doing so means I can’t actually read the journalism

I didn't cancel my WaPo subscription because I want biased journalism. I canceled because I want courageous journalism.

I have a journalism joke but it doesn’t work anymore
I have a history joke, but I'm not sure about the ending.
