I, like a bunch of data people, know the dark history because the when the library for creating ridgeline plots was developed, it was originally called joyplots in reference to the album cover, but was quickly renamed Ridgeline plots when the context was explained.

Joyplots have been around for like a decade or so, well longer but the name has been around that long. The name comes from a Joy Division album cover. They are formally called ridgeline plots, due in part to the historical meaning of the term joy division (Women compelled by Nazis into sex service).

They use ML to catalogue and characterize the steaks from ExoMars CaSSIS and MRO HiRISE and then attempt to link them to other dust activity, shown in this figure.
