Gardener's naming convention: lose the label, invent a name. This is my shrowlberry. Originally though Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' I believe. Flat wide spreading juniper. #juniper #gardenhumor

Ask the Master Gardener: Numerous plants offer shelter and food for wildlife over winter
Dear Master Gardener: What native or hardy Minnesota plants can I add to my yard to provide food and shelter for wildlife during the winter? Answer: To survive cold Minnesota winters, wildlife depends on evergreens, berry producing shrubs, ornamental grasses and perennials for food and shelter. Eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) provides both shelter and high calorie cones and berries for birds. One of the best wildlife trees is our native serviceberry (Amelanchier) because its spring blooms feed pollinators and its sweet berries are devoured by birds. Although crabapple (Malus) is not a native tree, it is a great addition to the landscape and provides small fruits that stay on the tree well into the winter. These frozen winter treats feed robins, cedar waxwings, and cardinals when food is scarce. Native to Minnesota, the red-osier dogwood (Cornus sericea) features bright red winter stems that pop against snow, and white berries that feed local birds. Grey dogwood (Cornus racemosa), another native shrub, provides berries for birds, and dense thickets that serve as nesting sites and shelter for songbirds and small mammals. Viburnum (arrowwood and blackhaw are the native varieties) supply berries late into the season for robins and thrushes. Staghorn and...

red cedar is slow-growing and good for repelling moths and insects. if you're going to cut it i'm sure you could make closet shelves, or just useful blocks for putting in closets or storage
