I'm a simple guy. I've always liked pots that look like people, whether an Etruscan head kantharos or a Picasso abstract pot

🏺Ancient Greek Attic red-figure terracotta kantharos (drinking vessel) dated 470 BCE. The kantharos is in the shape of satyr’s head on one side and the other side is in the shape of a woman’s head (not visible in the photo). The British Museum. 📷 My own.

This extraordinary Greek kantharos (or drinking cup) depicts a woman’s face, a typical motif for such vessels as well as plates and bowls. What’s most striking is the modern feel to the design and shape, like something for the first half of the 20th century.

Despite its rough appearance, this transparent blue-green glass kantharos (cantharus) - a two-handled wine cup - is quite beautiful. Almost all surviving examples are pottery, with a few in metal, so a glass version is quite rare.

Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Furry classicist: the cup is a late 6th century BCE Attic black figure kantharos with scenes of ithyphallic satyrs, currently in the British Museum (inv. 1876,0328.5). Also it's TF trigger and now you're a donkey, hee-haw 🫏🏺

And, yes, I should have been more specific. Although this kantharos looks Greek, it’s Etruscan. This shows the influence that the Greeks had on Etruscan culture.
