Joe Shulist, near Wilno Ontario. His ancestors came to Canada around 1870 from Kashubia, an area south of Gdansk now part of Poland. Most got very poor land in and around Wilno, two hours NW of Ottawa, since much of the better land had already been taken by earlier European settlers.

Firefighters in Chmielno, northern Poland, carried out a challenging rescue after a horse fell into a concrete well in the Kashubia region. Using special lifting straps, rescuers safely pulled the frightened animal to the surface without serious injuries to the horse.
