NASA & Katalyst Space are attempting to rescue the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory, a powerful gamma-ray telescope that's on a death-spiral toward Earth.

A booster spacecraft, called Link, is now on its way. It will attempt to grab Swift & lift it to safety. 🧪🔭

It turns out that the Space Force TIP message recording LINK's reentry on Sep 24 was incorrect. The Katalyst team inform me that the SWIFT reboost mission satellite sent its last data during reentry at 0638:12 UTC Sep 25.
I have no explanation for the incorrect USSF data.

NASA's Swift gamma-ray space telescope is in a fast-decaying orbit. Next month, NASA & Katalyst will attempt to save it.

If successful, this will be the first mission to grab a satellite that wasn't designed to be serviced & move it into a new orbit. 🔭🧪
