IMO it's less the keycount and more the songlist + aesthetics, we're all about the club bangers and the "You're the DJ of this gig" vibe the game's got going on . Been thinking of picking up either DJ Hero or Rocksmith 2014 myself to get into the scene...

it appears to be 6 key rollover. i'd prefer n but i think there are input limitations with this diy microcontroller + keycount combo (it uses a matrix).

kind of. 7K is a popular keycount, and i believe BMS is responsible for that.
BMS is based on beatmania, iirc. it's a rhythm game made in late 1997 with five keys and a turntable. it's one of the first VSRG's in history, which are games where the notes fall down onto a judgement line

I don't like keysCount. Either propertyCount or keyCount! Not keysCount, it doesn't feel grammatically correct. keysLength is bad for the same reason, but keyLength is also not good, implying each key is of length keyLength. Let's go with "count", and no plural on "property" or "key".
