Also another friend, Davit Babayan is STILL BEING HELD in Azerbaijan.

Bright orange lichen + a touch of snow at the shores of Lake Sevan, where this forgotten stone has tumbled down from the fortress. 🌿📷🏺🌱🏵️

Largest botanical specimens out here are familiar wild roses.

I wrote this after reading about the Lebanon-Israel "peace deal" because it reminded me so much of the one between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Around that time, friends in the KRI alerted me to fresh bombing of Kurdish villages by Turkish forces which the Kurdistan Regional Government played down

Nakhichevan was cleansed in 2000s, and the motivation for that was to erase Armenian traces in the region. Recently however AZ developed a new attitude towards Khachkars: AZ propaganda now claims that AR "forges" crosses, "artificially ages" them, and plants them to claim "fake" historic presence 🤯

According to Avanesov, the Mayraberd complex included monuments commemorating the Great Patriotic War (World War II), the Artsakh War, and a khachkar (traditional Armenian cross-stone) honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide and the anti-Armenian pogroms in Sumgait.

Seen yesterday on Wikipedia the ~ 15ft/5m tall late 12th century #Armenian Khachkars (cross stones) of Aparank Monastery, Üçpınar, Tercan in Erzincan Province, eastern Turkey. I was here in 2022. Even in ruins there was beauty. A 3rd fallen Khachkar symbolic of continued divide.

This propaganda leads to obvious results. If Armenians are enemies (and they are portrayed as enemies for last 30 years), and if their stone crosses are fakes, then they need to be erased. Which is precizely what happened in 2020. Some churches (like St Mary Church in Mekhakavan) were destroyed too.
