Incidentally, I meant to ask you earlier, how did you end up in both Gaza and Israel, which you’d mentioned earlier. Did you work on a kibbutz? Genuinely curious. I had thought about doing that when I was a student but in the end I decided against it (for the reason I gave in my other post here).

Not true. She, a leftist, went in 1936 to Israel out of idealism, also because she saw the danger. She lived in a kibbutz, married, got children, all kibbutzniks, all leftist, peace willing, anti-racist. In 1940 her parents fled with her two sisters to the US. One of her children lived in Be'eri.

I call it Democracy.
In a Democracy you are free to pray if you believe that it will improve your life or not pray if you don't believe in Devine intervention or its existence.
Communism is an economic secular system like a Kibbutz.

Trump and Netanyahu’s attack on Iran has now cost the world $3 Trillion. For what? So corrupt old white men can stay in power and deflect from their crimes.

Here's one filmed by the BBC near a kibbutz in Israel.

The IUCN Red List classifies them as globally Vulnerable (VU), but in much of their range, they're rare & endangered.

Note the way they slink along the ground, nose to the ground.

Documentary captures resilience of Kibbutz Kfar Aza women following October 7 attacks
A new documentary titled 'Where Do We Belong?' produced by Canadian-Israeli filmmaker Igal Hecht and directed by Israeli filmmaker Dotan Nave explores the ongoing struggles and resilience of women from Kibbutz Kfar Aza in the months following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. The film, which premiered on Israel's Channel 8 on October 5, 2026, and will screen in Toronto and Vancouver as part of the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival, follows the women's journey through grief, displacement, medical recovery, and rebuilding their lives over a two-and-a-half-year period. The documentary centers on a WhatsApp group that connected women during the attack, which has remained a vital communication link for survivors who lost relatives, homes, and their ordinary lives. The film focuses on three women but portrays the larger group, highlighting their interconnectedness and the support system they formed as they mourned together, relocated three times, and worked to rebuild their lives. It emphasizes that the trauma did not end on October 7 but continues as they raise children, work, and navigate the challenges of finding a new future after losing husbands, homes, and community. The documentary does not resolve whether the women will return to Kfar Aza or relocate elsewhere, reflecting their ongoing uncertainty. Hecht, who has produced over 70 documentary films in his career, states that the film is not primarily political but a human story about people connected by trauma who are trying, day by day, to heal and move forward. The film aims to show the daily work of surviving after a tragedy, including raising children, returning to work, managing social obligations, and finding a way forward after losing a husband or home. The documentary also touches on how the attack has changed survivors' perspectives on coexistence, with some realizing that their previous beliefs in peace with Gaza were not reciprocated. The film was made with careful attention to consent and trauma, with the filmmakers building trust with participants and avoiding exploitative practices. Hecht will attend Canadian screenings for post-film Q&As, emphasizing the importance of understanding the ongoing trauma and resilience of the women featured in the documentary.
