the thing about "kilnforming" is it sounds a little like something you made up for a fantasy setting

you can tell im an autodidact because i have 0 historical education and very little education on things other than kilnforming lol

you might be dicking around but i've been carefully cultivating enough people with basic kilnforming knowledge to bounce ideas off of and get feedback from 24 hours a day. for some reason

a big part of why kilnforming works for me is that you have to Put The Glass In The Box and Close The Box and you cannot Look In The Box until its fucking done. helped break the habits

fused glass/warm glass/kilnforming is sort of the little brother no one takes seriously of the glass art forms because it's a form that you can make beautiful stuff with while still well within the shallow end of the pool

i don't know if there are any of these for glass!!!!! mostly when i am correcting misconceptions about what i do, which is kilnforming/fused glass, its just correcting people's vague guesses about what they assume the job is, they don't have strong beliefs about it.
What's something that experts/practitioners in your field universally agree upon, but that remains a "hot take" among the general public?

alas you really can't do marbles with simply kilnforming, you need it to be like. in motion while it's hot
November 28, 2025 at 12:28 AM
i don't really do beads generally just cabochons and the drop shape is hard for kilnforming because it wants to contract like a water droplet but bullseye makes this STUNNING garnet, just a rich deep crimson

lampwork tends to be a lot more forgiving than kilnforming for compatibility issues so you might ask someone who works with the glass hot, they might give you a different answer!

Everything has arrived for the kiln, fed the glass goblin by getting some fusing sheets and frit, designs ready to go. When it’s not literally ✨hell✨ outside, I’ll do my first firing.

these are the available colors. the final pieces use the glass as a base for the design and then i add speckles in related and complimentary colors, or i add the dragon scale pattern.
