This is a black, bronze equestrian statue of King Richard I, also known as Richard the Lionheart, created by Baron Carlo Marochetti and installed outside the Palace of Westminster in London in 1860. The king is sitting on the horse that has its front left leg raised, while he raises a triumphant sword in the air. The granite pedestal the statue sits upon features two bronze bas-relief panels on its sides, added in 1866–1867: East side: Depicts Crusaders fighting Saracens at the Battle of Ascalon. West side: Depicts Richard on his deathbed forgiving Bertran de Gourdon (or Bertran de Born), the archer who fatally shot him in 1199. Location: The statue is located in Old Palace Yard, directly outside the Houses of Parliament. The facade of the building it stands in front of shows 4 high 8 wide sets of arched windows four in each grouping. The building itself has a sandstone colour. There are numerous lampposts in the courtyard.
