I joined Heartland Labor Forum to talk about my book, "Why Fascists Fear Teachers," & why educators are critical to a strong democracy because they teach kids critical thinking and foster pluralism. We need to be strengthening public education-not tearing down teachers.

Feel like I am stealing from @unionelections.bsky.social with this, but the workers at Kansas City's PBS Station are working to unionize with @nabetcwa.bsky.social!

KCUR, The Star, and KKFI have all also unionized with CWA-affiliated unions in the recent years.

KKFI asks: Why are you protesting nukes?

Six peacemakers were arrested for crossing the property line at KC's nuclear weapon factory May 19. https://peaceworkskc.org/kkfi-asks-why-are-you-protesting-nukes/

So KCUR should become more like KKFI?

KKFI fits this model, IMO it's the closest to a public library that a radio station can be. Informative, education, challenging, multicultural etc etc etc. KKFI is great, but we also have room for NPR to be what NPR used to be before it kowtowed to Trump

The U.S. Senate is taking up a bill this week that would defund public broadcasting. That would directly threaten Kansas City's noncommercial music stations like KCUR 89.3, Classical KC, 90.9 The Bridge and KKFI 90.1 FM. https://loom.ly/KlsEiko
Federal cuts threaten Kansas City’s music scene: A joint statement from local stations
Kansas City’s noncommercial stations provide critical pipelines for new, local artists and music to be discovered. But if Congress rescinds federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, public radio stations such as KCUR, Classical KC, KKFI and 90.9 The Bridge would have diminished capacity to deliver the same quality and variety of music.
