Everybody knows of the beautiful church on Bled Island, but I think my fav church scene in Slovenia is in Drežnica 😍

I took a detour off the Alpe-Adria to visit Kobarid, then had to climb back up to rejoin the trail. Was a real slog until I came over the hill and this idyllic view revealed itself

I don’t know what all the fuss was about…you can literally jump across the Soča/Isonzo river. How Cadorna managed to long it out for 11 battles is a mystery 🤷‍♂️

Moving down the Soca Valley this time, this peaceful valley was the scene of awful carnage in WW1. Kobarid has the Italian Charnel House monument and the ridge from Livek to Kolovrat has preserved trenches, as well as providing glorious views over to both the Kanin mountains and Mt Krn.
The village of Livek nestles in the folds of the hills on the climb up to the long ridge just south of Kobarid. The road winding above it provides lovely views over to the Kanin mountains. Seen here with snow remaining on the tops in Spring. Trees just beginning to flower on the ridge overlooking the Soca Valley. Looking towards Kobarid and the Kanin mountains on the Italian border. On a hill above Kobarid sits the Italian ossuary containing the bones of over 7000 fallen soldiers surrounding a church. Kobarid is known in Italian as Caporetto, and was where Hemingway served as an ambulanceman and wrote A Farewell to Arms

The Soča river is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Impossibly clear except except after rain, it ranges from pale blue, to Turquoise, to Emerald at different parts. It emerges from a high mountain cave in the Trenta area. Host to the rare marble trout and is great for canoeing and fly-fishing.
The Soca near Kobarid - slightly milky after a few days of rain but showing the typical turquoise blue-green colour of this stretch. Canoeists on the Soca. Despite it flowing fast it's so clear you can hardly tell what the canoes are floating on. Swimmers cooling off in the crystal clear and turquoise Soca a few km north of Kobarid near Trnovo.

Místa podél Soči asi nikomu v ČR představovat nemusím. To všichni znáte - Tolmin, Kobarid, Bovec. Všechno je to hezký, všechno plný sportovců a adrenalinovejch závisláků.

Vy to stejně nemůžete vynechat, protože jsou to neuvěřitelně krásný místa.

Hab ein bisschen über vegetarisches Essen in Slowenien geschrieben.

In Slowenien habe ich unter anderem vegane Krautwickel, vegetarische Carbonara und Cacio e Pepe gegessen. Das nicht nur in der Hauptstadt Ljubljana, sondern auch an Orten an denen man es im ersten Moment nicht erwarten würde.
