I love the different bird sounds in different places. I have a very specific and deep memory of koels in India and here in the UK it’s the lovely wood pigeons.

Found the 5th Common Hawk-Cuckoo for Oman today (if accepted). Absolutely made up with this. The same small wooded park at Al Shamkaiah on Masirah Island also held RB Fly, 2 Asian Koels and 2 Forest Wagtails. What a place!

It's why common names are so useless. Here the bird referred to as a storm bird is the Masked lapwing - and of course they don't herald storms any more than Koels do.

Nice morning of birding. Haven't been for ages, so it was delight to see Red-tailed Black Cockatoos, Pale-headed Rosellas, 5 honeyeater spp, Koels, Mistletoebirds, Dollarbirds, Bee-eaters & others. Easiest Cicadabird ever. (I can hear a...oh, there it is.)

Single green egg laid per leaf on native mulberry, Pipturus argenteus.
Another reason to keep an eye on this native plant. Great garden addition, it attracts birds who love the fruit & flowers like lorikeets, fig birds & koels.
