Comic 25: Birth of the Rahaga is a sort of in-between retelling of this backstory, mixing early with final lore. Roodaka, Nidhiki and Krekka are all depicted in their originally intended roles as the Makuta's captains. They clash with the Hagah, but Roodaka is not put to sleep.

As in the final lore, Roodaka mutated the Toa Hagah into Rahaga, but the Hagah managed to put her and Sidorak to sleep. How or when they woke up isn't elaborated on, but I guess this explains their absence from Legend of Metru Nui's events. Nidhiki and Krekka took their place.

Greg's explanation for Makuta's defeat in LoMN was of course his famous "I disagreed with something I ate" speech, attributing the lack of his powers to the not-yet-dead minds of Nidhiki, Krekka and Nivawk interrupting his concentration after he assimilated them into himself.

For me it's a case of this story being fine if it wasn't a sequel to something else. That in particular really makes him hit or miss to me.

Good design. Really makes me think of Bionicle Krekka. Not a bad Vehicon general, just think he'd have worked better if Machines wasn't so connected to Wars.

*Trans clear, not just translucent

Funny enough, the TRANS CLEAR part is the part thats exclusive to Krekka, but the white part is way more valuable due to its only other set being a fan favorite Market Street Modular Building set

Ok so if I'm not mistaken there's two there's versions of Krekka. One came with the white tube that makes up part of his eyepiece and one that's sort of translucent.

Eyyy and that's the white hose variant of Krekka, the rarer of the two (and only rarer by an absurd technicality that I'm obsessed with lol)

I suppose Dume planned to capture Vakama after humiliating the Toa, forcing him to make the Mask of Time, but the film doesn't elaborate and Dume never informs Nidhiki and Krekka to get the Disks Vakama is carrying. The scene is worse when the rest of canon is taken into account.

This prototype from April 2003 inspired both the Vahki and Krekka. Its ability to switch to quadrupedal mode was retained for the final Vahki designs. For tools, it simply uses Staff of Light pieces, elements of which were carried over into the Vorzakh staff's design.

About 95% of a Krekka for $3 is not bad at all

Lego's building manuals revealing that you can combine the Nidhiki, Krekka, Dume and Nivawk toys into a giant monstrosity called "Ultimate Dume" was yet further evidence that something was up with this guy. Though at this point, any allegiance to Makuta had not been mentioned.

Been wondering about the same thing. Shoulder launcher, mono eye, colors, both the Tankor and Krekka toys having a crank on the back that gives them a scanning motion (eye for Tankor, chest and head for Krekka)... As a bonus, Krekka was voiced by Michael Dobson and Tankor by his brother Paul Dobson.

The animation misses the mark compared to the storyboard. It's not obvious that Nidhiki is hitting Krekka, Krekka looks at Nidhiki instead of his chest, and they didn't animate him rubbing his chest either. He just jerks his right hand a bit but it's blocked by Nidhiki's head.

The storyboard makes it clear that Nidhiki is supposed to smack Krekka in the chest with a loud CLANG! to get his attention. Krekka then looks at his aching chest and keeps rubbing and rubbing it in pain before he walks away. Under all that armor and bulk, he is still sensitive.

This bit in LoMN where Krekka abruptly jerks forward and looks sad used to confuse me, I thought it's an animation error. But looking at the storyboards, this was actually intended as a gag that got fumbled by the animation and editing.

Personally, I always liked to interpret this shot as Krekka pointing a finger gun at Lhikan a he leads him away.

Later shots are carefully blocked and obscured so you don't see the cuff or energy bind, this way the animators and compositors could avoid adding it to the shots. I'm not sure why cuffs would even be necessary, considering Krekka could just restrain Lhikan with his film-exclusive hands.
May 30, 2026 at 12:51 AM
Another animation shortcut. Krekka was meant to put real handcuffs on Lhikan but the film simplified this to a basic energy effect, presumably to avoid having to model and animate the cuffs. So of course it had to be added to canon that Krekka can project energy binds to explain the scene.

The crane scene was probably too hard to animate and a simpleton like Krekka controlling it would have been out of character for him. The novel also describes an entire cab for the crane but what would a giant cab that fits a beast like Krekka be doing in a Matoran foundry?
May 30, 2026 at 12:51 AM
An elaborate abandoned sequence that survives in the novel is Krekka using a crane to grab Lhikan and Vakama. For a time, I thought the metal arm Lhikan jumps on was the remnant of the crane scene, but it's just a lever that controls the molten metal flow.
