They had rivets on the soles like Roman caliga.
krepis were loved by soldiers, hunters and travelers as so-called "soldiers' shoes".

The Krepis was a robust toe-less sandal laced or strapped to the front. A common cliché was to remove shoes after withdrawing from combat. In a carving at the temple of Nike Apteros in Athens (constructed around 420 BCE) Victory (Nike) is depicted untying her sandal.

Alcibiades developed a heavy leather, low military boot (similar to a high-top sneaker). These laced to the front & covered the foot & later became luxury footwear worn by civilians. Most soldiers wore the Krepis made from heavy leather with an ankle strapping.
