in my twenties i was obsessed with miike's work, but kuroshiya-1 was the first movie of his I'd seen. i think i prefer it to the manga, actually, since the lens shifts outward from a battle ultimately between kinks to instead become a meditation on warriors who belong in no society at all.

my runner up is Kuroshiya-1, which can also easily be described as a rom-com. Because it kind of is!

good choices, I'll present some of mine. these are all men because for some reason costuming for women doesn't seem to play with silhouette as often. wonder why
Tadanobu Asano as flamboyant crime boss Kakihara in Takashi Miike's Kuroshiya-1, showing off his fit at the end of the film- iridescent/almost holographic blazer and slacks, transparent sequined shirt, bleached hair, piercings holding his slashed cheeks together. In the manga, he just wears a glossy black suit and wears his hair dark - this is a serious upgrade. 10/10 bad times hotboy. Charles S. Dutton as Leonard Dillon in Alien3. He wears a bunch of layers to give him even more silhouette bulk against the other members of the cast; he's shorn bald, but his heavy frames are sometimes placed on his pate, giving him a taller silhouette from below when needed. A significant and visible scar traces his left cheek. His clothes are humble, fitting his monastic attitudes, but still bear the Weyland-Yutani corporate logo at the shoulder - the company owns everyone. He also has a heavy belt and black leather gloves, which tie in a thor-like heroic cast to his final encounter with the alien. A great look for a great actor in a great role. 10/10, claims he's probably a rapist but if he were chilling on the corner I'd mark that neighborhood a safe one for me to walk in because I've known that kind of church guy and if you start nonsense in his block he will haul you bodily to your pastor. Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone. this is the most Frank Castle anyone has Frank Castled in movies. He's got it all: the hair, the height, the build, excellent tac gear creating a really heavily tooled up silhouette vs the goons he's up against in the movie. The movie itself has its issues but none of them are Frank. Stevenson delivers in every way, as did wardrobe. 10/10, would definitely not, the man is toxic. Nobody should be thinking about sleeping with Frank Castle. he's still married, no matter how dead she is. Ghasan Massoud as Saladin in Kingdom of Heaven, in his gorgeous maille and helmet. I'll be honest, it was a coin flip between him and Edward Norton as Baldwin, both are immaculate, but I figured Massoud would be invoked less for some reason despite this utterly gorgeous helmet and scale treatment (and his incredible rizz in his turban and robe). Incredible casting, incredible wardrobe, great movie. 10/10, the Saladin for me.
