I might just be getting old but what really impresses me in animation is a lot of the subtler stuff seen in Kyoani shows or independent stuff created by animators like smiling friends.

Source? I heard he just had very high standards but gave the animators a lot of freedom. Like I'm sure they're no KyoAni but they still have a better working environment than 99% of the Anime industry.

alternatively, it was KyoAni re-doing the Beyond the Boundary experience, but
1) I truly, honestly believe that show did not have as insultingly bad a finale as the show i just watched
2) Glasslip's the funnier comparison anyways (and both shows had me morbidly enraptured the whole way too)

The second season had a really ham fisted arc that meant the fetish stuff left a stronger impression. The KyoAni arson hit the series pretty hard. This sort of slice of life has been hit pretty hard by short seasons and ever increasing animation expectations. Theres still stuff like it like Darasan

For the anime specifically? KyoAni went to heroic lengths to make something better out of the source they were given. I'd say they did a good job, but it's still ultimately Cool Kyoushinsha's comic, so there'll be both found family and boobs. ╮(＾▽＾)╭

Kyoani + camp is a good combo. The full view of the city in the first episode was just them flexing like only they can. Yosuke and his going through it after losing his crush to making a robo BF was the right balance of sleaze.
Also the Girls Band episode went hard.
