Casio has developed and launched a urushi-lacquered calculator, and it is absolutely beautiful. I had considered lacquering calculators myself, but this is not the kind of project that can easily be realized unless the manufacturer takes the initiative.

i think when we watch this game in 10 years it'll mostly just be funny. 28-3 was a little less inexcusable than this but it's lacquered in ten coats of dread. watching it now still feels uniquely awful

Inro are traditional Japanese portable containers worn suspended from the obi (sash) of a kimono. These multi-compartment cases held personal items like medicines, seals, or money. Made from wood, they were secured with silk cords and often featured decorative netsuke toggles.
