Had a few more thoughts. To my knowledge, this means the most solid pre-Clovis site in the Americas is now Page-Ladson, in Florida, which nobody (AFAIK) has been able to poke any holes in. Page-Ladson is about 1000-1500 years pre-Clovis, a long way from any ice-free corridors or coastal routes.
Reading through everything available on the new Monte Verde paper that, if accurate, would make the site much later and knock out one of the key pegs underpinning the arguments for early human settlement of the Americas. Some extremely initial thoughts:

Let's grant that Monte Verde's new dating is right, later than 11-10k BP. What's the problem with Page-Ladson? Why do we keep seeing early dates at other sites, even if they're problematic? There's an element of epistemic closure around attitudes toward these claimed earlier sites.
