Made it to Fort William! A very comfortable journey again with Caledonian Sleeper; my favourite train in the UK.

100%!! ✅

Arrival at Kyle of Lochalsh and that’s me done - I’ve completed the entire British passenger railway network!

It’s taken me about 20 years on and off to complete this and I’ve saved one of our most beautiful lines to last - the snowy, remote Kyle Line.

#lastscratch - COMPLETE. 🇬🇧 ⛄️ 🚂

Shades of pink and blue just before sunrise, over Rannoch Moor - my favourite part of the journey to Fort William by sleeper.

I’m about to complete 100% of the British railway network today. I’m off to Kyle of Lochalsh from Inverness with @nonstopeurotrip.com on this beautiful snowy morning!

A @scotraill.bsky.social Class 158 is our ride up the Kyle Line towards the Isle of Skye. 🤩 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ❄️

Here we go! My final odyssey in Britain on my quest to clear the entire GB passenger network.

I’m with @nonstopeurotrip.com as I complete the remaining 0.47% of the network: Dingwall-Kyle of Lochalsh. But first - the Cally Sleeper to Fort William!

Let’s go! #lastscratch 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Made it to Ashington on opening day! 🤩 Great to see this former railway reopened and revitalised - it was very busy with lots of “normals” from Ashington riding into Newcastle.

The station was closed in 1964 but reopened TODAY to passengers 😎 #lastscratch

That’s all for #lastscratch this week. The remaining 0.47% of the network will wait until early 2025. 😎

And that’s a wrap for South Wales! Fishguard Harbour and Milford Haven complete ✅

Just Pwllheli, Oban, and Kyle of Lochalsh for the full 100% now 👀 #lastscratch

Very pleasant stay at the Rose and Crown in Goodwick. Double room en suite and breakfast included… £37 🤩 unbeatable value and just yards from Fishguard and Goodwick station! #lastscratch 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The penultimate journey of my #lastscratch begins! Glasgow Queen Street to Oban aboard this Scotrail Class 156 - the rear portion will detach at Crianlarich for Fort William/Mallaig. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🚊

This trip will bring me to 2,567 out of 2,579 stations covered: 99.53% of the entire British network!

And so I’m off to Fishguard! These lovely CAF Class 197s work the branch, and I’m picking up the train here in Carmarthen. Let’s go 😎 just a few more branches left to tick off for me to reach 100% completion of the passenger network in Great Britain. #lastscratch 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🚊

Good morning from the lounge on the Caledonian Sleeper!

This portion to Fort William is called the Deerstalker - from when wealthy London patrons would come to these parts to hunt deer.

We’re just rounding the horseshoe curve heading to Bridge of Orchy! ❄️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 #lastscratch

Wales complete! ✅ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

That’s every station ticked off on the National Rail Network and I cross 99% UK overall network coverage. The line to Pwllheli is the Cambrian Railway: in summer, beautiful, sun-touched; in winter, brooding, foreboding. It’s rural with many request stops.

To Wales! A double GWR Class 805 bi-mode unit takes me to Carmarthen today. We will reverse in Swansea and drop one of the units there. We run on nice clean electric power as far as Cardiff today where the wires currently end. Let’s go! #lastscratch 🚊 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Huge rural railway vibes as I ride down to the junction at Clarbeston Road, which has both a token exchange for the one train Fishguard branch and is a request srop. Flagged down my connection - Milford Haven next, and the last few miles I need in South Wales! #lastscratch 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🚊

A walk takes me to the end of the line: Fishguard Harbour. This station serves a port, but no ship is due to leave at this time. This is the only station in GB you can smoke on the platform; it’s owned by ferry company Stena Line! I’ve a 20 minute wait for my train.

It’s time to start the #lastscratch countdown - I have five more branches to cover in Great Britain to complete the passenger network which I will finish by mid-January. Today, I’m off to South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and the first leg of my journey is to London, this Class 390 Pendolino doing the honours!
