Won't be around for much longer. They are turning it into a game show like all their other dismal offerings. Safer than politics. Another win for the Murdochs. God i miss "Lateline".

Peter Manning died at 81. He saved Four Corners from the axe, built Lateline, Foreign Correspondent and Landline, and mentored generations of fearless journalists.

And flooding it with crap "comedy" shows. God I miss "Lateline" and its ilk. I suppose with shit "comedy" shows there's little chance of holding the Liberal, take from the poor to give to the rich Party, to account. Murdoch, Stokes and Costello will be well pleased.

Yes! He’s so shallow. I remember when abc news shows were run by different journos, Lateline, ABriefing, QandaA,The Drum, Insiders etc. now our news and politics has been reduced and it’s an endless diet of Speers/Karvelas no wonder we’re annoyed.

25 years ago tonight, someone just wanted to record "When We Were Kings" off ABCTV.

Here are text scrolls during the documentary, Tony Jones interrupting from the Lateline, and text scrolls saying they will return to normal broadcasting soon (they did not, and later say so)

It’s depressing how bad their news coverage is these days compared to what it used to be. Lateline was pulled off the air due to political interference in 2017 & things seemed to go downhill much faster - coverage became timid and bland.

I always liked the bit of the Lateline closing credits that showed an Orion releasing flares.

"Man who was wrong about everything not finished being wrong".

It reminds me, when Abbott was PM, and making embarrassingly stupid decisions, Lateline would regularly have Kennet on to say Abbott wasn't going far enough.

I used to watch Al Jazeera on ABC as part of my bedtime routine back when Tony & Emma presented Lateline, & liked it for its ME content.
Of course I went searching for it for the current conflict, but was so shocked by the bias that I let it go.

We never really did late night satire but then we did have Lateline - which was first rate long form tv journalism.

Unless I am misremembering, you were in Australia being interviewed by Tony Jones, perhaps 2011 on our Australia Broadcasting Corporation's 'Lateline'.

He mentioned to you that the ABC had a political show actually called Insiders, which was exactly the type of coverage you'd been critical of.

It's tied to Opus Dei, Tony Abbott believed to a main player with his history with Bob Santamaria.
Via Opus Dei it is also linked to America's Supreme Court
