The comic does admittedly use a strawman, but it's directed at a very specific kind of loud guy who kept saying things like "vibecession" during the 2024 election. We found out then and we'll find out again and again that laymen don't find comfort in positive signs like "real wage growth"

Again, I think this is significant, because Nagasaki is often framed in "strategic" terms by laymen, journalists, and experts. That is an after-the-fact gloss on it. At the time, it was done because the military felt they could do it, and wanted to do it. Truman was thoroughly out of the loop.

It’s true. Racism is not a form of insanity it is a form of conformity & and expression of status quo enforcement. Among laymen it is an uncritical acceptance of a set of beliefs into which they were enculturated. Among the upper class it is a method of controlling those unwilling to unlearn.
