My co-teacher & I met today and:
- resurrected & redesigned our gamification cards & plan;
- made plans for student reading goals and formal reading conferences; and
- retooled our research unit, using nonfiction graphic novels as springboards for DBQs & multimodal group projects.

I’m preparing for a stakeholder standards review meeting with the PA Department of Education on Monday. We’re looking at the standards of our state and surrounding states to determine if revisions are needed (in math & ELA). I’m excited for this work.

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to read @jarredamato.bsky.social’s book. It can be a quick read, ripe with pages, activities, and prompts to flag for later as you strengthen your own work with independent reading in the ELA classroom. #leadELA
Leadership is hard. I’m a department chair and not an admin, so I often have to play intermediary roles to those in positions who make final decisions. Finding the balance and letting go of false pretenses of the range of my influence is a challenge for me. #leadELA

I don’t love IXL, but I ran an ANOVA to compare the means of high school students’ IXL reading benchmark scores to their state end-of-year exam in ELA, and I found statistically significant differences in the groups, suggesting some correlation on these measures. #statistics #leadELA
