I think @owillis.bsky.social likes to point this out: In DC Comics, when Lex Luthor ran for president, he divested from LexCorp because the idea of him winning an election without doing that was obviously just crazy.
I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

So! It basically goes like this: Lexcorp wants to acquire Wayne Enterprises. Wayne is valued at 100 billion dollars, but Lexcorp only has 30. So they go to a bank, get the bank to loan 70bil Lexcorp needs to purchase Wayne *to the target company*

DC had Lex Luthor give up Lexcorp when he became President of the United States.
Once got a note from a senior editor that a villain I was developing, whose motivations were revenge, greed, and malice, was not realistic. I think about that a lot these last few years.
I'm old enough to remember when the idea of a Bond villain seemed kind of cheesy and ridiculous. Could name half a dozen off the top of my head now that would slot right in with very little embellishment required.
