One of the coolest illustrators I discovered at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art was Ernie Barnes! His work was prominently displayed in the Sports wing of the museum alongside other legendary illustrators like J. C. Leyendecker! I love how he plays with form!

I just briefly browsed through all of those men's work...all of them were 👍💯🎨👌. Leyendecker is still my 🏆, but I'm falling in love that Schaeffer "White Brigand" you posted, and these two (I once lived in S.F. for 10 yrs...been on that street, fond memories of SF Bay Area.)

Schaeffer's teacher was Harvey Dunn. A superb artist, Dunn could be considered one of the original "fathers" of American Illustration. If anyone, Schaeffer's work is reminiscent Dean Cornwell.
