Right, the advantage of LGCA is just that it doesn't involve categorical classes (always suspect IMO). Can be useful for answering some questions about e.g., risk factors or parallel change, but often people use them when they aren't the right tool for the question.

Like, one nice thing about latent growth mixtures is that they model uncertainty within classes (an LGCA is just a LGMM where there's no within class variance). They can do a nice job partialling variation in change.
But when people report on them, it's usually just "we found four classes!".

Estimado Poder Legislativo: no repitan el error de la LGCA en la nueva Ley del Cine. La independencia de las productoras no puede ser solo nominal. No incluyan como independientes a empresas de capital extracomunitario ni a las dependientes de prestadores de servicios com. av. Estamos a tiempo.
Una nueva Ley del Cine y la Cultura Audiovisual debería responder a los retos de un sector en plena transformación y proteger la producción independiente. El texto del actual PL no lo hace y, si sale adelante, nacerá obsoleta. Ojalá en 2026 avancemos hacia una ley de consenso
