Hello! I’m a retired practitioner of historical preservation practices specializing in earth architecture (bousillage) and limewashes. I’d like to write a paper on my research into historic use of animal hair in earth plaster.

Generally, yes. The trend has been for heritage pointing, matching it to the masonry. The truth is bedding mortar was coloured as it came because the masonry had a skin- so lime ‘repointing’ is an artificial process though it can help for a while. Coloured limewashes once covered brickwork too.
