Beginners: As explained in lipu ku, use it or nimi.pona.la as examples to inspire, not word-for-word. Pick words that fit your real situation. Look up all meanings on the other side. Use li and e more than nouns with pi. Too few words = vague. Too many = clunky. Mix examples. Skip obscure words.
