And even when you go back to the CGF you'll always be one of us…" After one terrifying beat of silence, Noel laughed, the sound lighter than he had ever heard it, a hand gently pushing against his shoulder. The touch made his heartbeat flutter for a split-second— he needed to be careful, or he'd get the wrong idea. "Alright then—" She grinned at him, her gray eyes reflecting the city's night lights like a kaleidoscope. "I'll trust you, leader." But when the dice fell and the dust had settled— his leadership was found lacking.

Back when Fran had been too young to do much but trail behind her, chubby hands perpetually clinging at Noel's shirt; they were at the doorstep of their little home in the Villa-Raisins Apartments. Fran didn't remember that place… They hadn't been able to afford it after Dad died, even with the Survivor's Compensation checks they got. "Daddy, do you have to go to work all weekend?" There was some big event— Noel had been young; how did you explain a military exercise to someone still learning her letters? "Sorry sweetheart. But, doing this is why you and Fran can keep kicking up all sorts of trouble in West Street, you know?" How did his eyes look? She'd forgotten so much of him— except for his scratchy chin when he'd kissed her cheek, and his warm hand on her head… "You three will just have to enjoy Crossbell extra hard for my sake— I wanna hear all about it when I get back." Noel covered her face, shuddering with each breath. It had been so long since she'd let herself cry over her dad— She was always worried about what Fran and their Mom would feel, so she'd always kept her eyes forward. Even when they'd covered his casket, when all that was left of him above ground was the name Ozma Seeker on a tombstone, she'd held Fran and her mother silently. From the corner of her darkened vision, she saw Wazy's hand offering a plain handkerchief.
