I think it's most underrated for nuclear. Allowing to loadshift power so it can follow daily demand curves is huge for nuclear's (currently problematic) economics. You're already starting with heat, and you need heat back, so there's no extra conversions. Etc. Seems perfectly matched.

Yes, this is incredibly useful - and showed Agile would generally be better for us on most days, even when we didn't loadshift.

PS: As more people loadshift, and day tariffs come down (cheap renewables) the difference between day and night prices will close. So be quick to maximise ROI.

Yes, the market for cheap midday energy is saturated so the goal is to loadshift as much as possible into the daytime. Heat or chill water, charge EVs, charge house batteries, pump water or run the AC.

There are other issues, like you don't get to sell back to the grid, so you would have to loadshift to the daylight hours. It's unclear now, but these systems could also provide resilience during PSPS and other outages - at least enough to keep batteries charged.

The big challenge with a heat pump is it cannot loadshift so you'll want a smart thermal battery or regular battery.
Also consider solar, insulation, vacuum glass windows, and given you mention NM downthread, drought-friendly garden choices.
