Seattle Worldcon was big because they have a huge annual convention that regularly draws 2000+ people, a lot of them young, the vast majority of whom probably turned up for at least a day or two of the Worldcon. LA has Loscon, which has about 700 members.

#westercon is shutting down after 2028. Next year's combined with Baycon, and the last one - Westercon 80 - will be combined with Loscon.

LosCon, in Brief
Some quick, very loosely organized thoughts on LosCon 35: * First, the bottom line: One of my best convention experiences ever. And in no small part that is due to the LosCon con committee, which w…

I have never had more women look at me with admiration than when I set up this printer at con-ops for LOSCON 2015, after they needed to print guest name standees and found their new digs were four floors away from the business center.
Also: "sturdy and can take a team." What you did there was seen.

I got to experience the short-ends of that range at a LosCon and all I was doing was getting one of his books signed.

Yes. Reading his prose fucked up my own style for years, it's so good.
I actually met him, very briefly, at Loscon in LA.
I asked him "How do you improve your voice?"
He replied "Write a little poetry every day."

LosCon 2017 or 18. Watched a man with very colorful hair wearing a d&d shirt run back and forth the whole con. Later, I realized it was Tailsen Jaffe when I saw him giving out autographs post panel. (I was on my way in to watch the next panel).
Please quote this from the time you didn't interact with someone famous.
I was visiting with family in New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the same time that Mother Theresa was there visiting her Missionaries of Charity. The bishop held a Mass for her at the church where I was baptized. I didn't go.

Catching a train from Bristol Temple Meads, but they shifted the service along the platform because a scene from THE OUTLAWS was being shot where it would usually come in. The scene featured Christopher Walken and Stephen Merchant, but my train came before they shot it so I didn't see either of 'em.

I ran into a whole buncha those at LosCon this past Thanksgiving. Suffice to say, I didn't buy anything from them. Last Saturday I went to an indy comics event where there wasn't a single bit of the slop in sight, and blew through $300 before I knew it.

Here are a few words on my experience with Loscon 51. I enjoyed the convention itself, though there were a few things around the convention I could have done without.

I asked, "It is weird?" and she said, "Yes!"
