LotRD was definitely one of the major influences on KoL.

I was genuinely surprised as a young autistic kid that people didn't like Waterworld. I've been promising myself a rewatch so my adult self can reappraise.

Oh gosh, the usual. The forums were the main focus, but your basic assortment of shareware, textfiles, door games like LotRD.

My local BBS had mods installed on LotRD one of which had an exploitable bug where you could get unlimited turns. Most people didn't know about it but wondered why I would spend so much time in that door each day.

Sam spends most of LOTRD insulting and belittling an addict who's trying to get better and in the end turns he was right to do so

I dialed into a BBS and killed another player's character in LotRD in their sleep back in 1992 and I've been chasing that high ever since. Facebook ruined it and LinkedIn nuked it from space (how do you have a professional platform that batshit and not implode?).

Soemthing ive always wodnered since teading the lotrd was like. Rm ran away since he was too scared to tame a wyvern but he ended up getting one anyway? Why didnt he return . Was he scared of the scolding.

Yes! I didn't get around to playing LotRD back in the day, but absolutely got hooked on the green remake in PHP some years later.
