#LunchtimeLP Bassist Oscar Pettiford was born 104 years ago today. Drum Suite by the Art Blakey Percussion Ensemble and the Jazz Messengers from 1957 features Oscar Pettiford on bass and on cello. Pettiford wrote the tune "Osalypso" on which he plays an amazing plucked solo on the cello. #jazzsky

#LunchtimeLP Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz and João Gilberto was recorded on this date in 1963 and released a year later on Verve records. It also featured pianist Antônio Carlos Jobim who also composed many of the tracks and also the vocals of Astrud Gilberto on two tracks. #jazzsky

#LunchtimeLP It's pianist Kenny Barron's 83rd birthday today. He played piano on Dizzy Gillespie's 1964 album. The Cool World. The album contains music composed by pianist Mal Waldron film with the same title. This is a great album and Barron was certainly up to the task. #jazzsky
