Recientemente he dado marca a la actividad, y para ello he escogido a una especie habitual, el acentor común, cuyas poblaciones reproductoras en la Península Ibérica se encuentran hasta el momento clasificadas dentro de la subespecie "mabbotti".

Seems all the specimens used to describe it were from France, so if the genetic divide were on the Pyrenees crest, then the Iberian ssp would need a new name.... 🥴

Have a look at the article; it cites some song differences. Seems mabbotti was described from the NE side of the Pyrenees, so it should be there. It's open access.

Conversely, Shirihai & Svensson couldn't find any distinctions...

In hope of an armchair tick if they get split? Struck me as a long shot when the 2021 paper proposing it came out; in the 5 years since, IOC (& Avilist) haven't accepted either of their splits, not even the more distinct Caucasus ssp. 😆

Shirihai doesn't accept mabbotti at all, just a synonym...😮
