À Madagascar, cinq cas de Mpox, également appelée « variole du singe », ont été confirmés mercredi 31 décembre par le ministère de la Santé publique. Onze cas suspects ont également été recensés. L’ensemble des patients a été détecté dans la ville de Majunga, cité balnéaire située dans le nord-ouest du pays. Ce virus se transmet par contacts étroits avec une personne infectée : par la salive, des éternuements ou lors de relations sexuelles. Les autorités sanitaires veulent désormais empêcher sa propagation à l'échelle nationale.
