My bone density is probably really bad because of the malabsorption for 5 years or so 🙃

[Food insecurity]

Basic overview of refeeding syndrome:

1. Malnutrition/malabsorption

2. Body slows down metabolism to deal with malnutrition/malabsorption

3. This metabolic change uses less vitamins/minerals/electrolytes

there's a part of me that's always felt like the weird malabsorption of the history of the Kindertransport has contributed to positions like these. As in, "Our country was so generous!" and ignoring the fact that "kids can begrudgingly come here but their parents MUST die" was a deliberate choice

Glyphosate should be banned not just because of evidence linking it to cancer but also because there is research supporting its role in the growing epidemic of celiac disease and gluten intolerance, both of which lead to malabsorption issues during digestion which have wide-ranging health effects.
As the U.S. doubles down on glyphosate, a widely cited study asserting its safety has been retracted after it was discovered the paper was ghostwritten by Monsanto employees.

This incident, and ghostwriting in general, harms scientific integrity, writes Naomi Oreskes. https://scim.ag/4rIIu4a

Further, conflating Crohn's and IBS downplays that people with Crohn's face unique challenges - we're often immunosuppressed, often have to undergo surgery (or surgeries), and have other symptoms like malabsorption, psoriasis, and arthritis, none of which are common with IBS.

As someone with a less common food restriction (I have fructose malabsorption), this would absolutely devastating to me. I already have a limited selection of options. But, if there is no labeling, I don't know how I would survive.

address fatigue. He's prescribing a supplement that's better tolerated.

Then address my sleep as best I can with Miss 13 and get a sleep study to make sure I don't have apnea causing more problems.

Labs ordered for bile salt malabsorption and autoimmune markers. He's thinking possible Sjogren's

[Food insecurity]

since I know a lot of folks dealing with food insecurity and/or disabilities that can cause malnutrition/malabsorption

this is just a PSA that you might want to keep an eye out for "refeeding syndrome" if/when you're able to get more nutrients

My energy is coming back, but it’s still taxing to spend an hour at a meal. Mostly resting, getting better every day. Having a small surgery on Tuesday to correct what got me here (a year of malabsorption issues after a colonoscopy went wrong) and I plan to be fully me again by the end of month. ❤️‍🩹

[Why] is furosemide susceptible to malabsorption from "gut edema"?

When a patient with heart failure is hospitalized with congestion I often hear "let's use IV furosemide; they're probably not absorbing the PO."

It's a comment unique to furosemide.

But is it accurate?

The Crohn's has a few effects beyond bad GI symptoms. I have scar tissue throughout my intestine. I have arthritis in both hands and knees. I have psoriasis. I've grown two different precancerous polyps. And I have complex hemiplegic migraines from vitamin deficiencies caused by malabsorption.

Candy corn and Peeps are awesome and, because I have fructose malabsorption, I can't eat either, which makes me sad.
It’s September which means it’s time for my least popular take of all: candy corn is great and all the haters can pound sand.

Next week’s three hour iron infusion (completely essential care, malabsorption means I have to do this every year or two) will cost me $1800 out of pocket. Fuuuuuuck this system.

Experts estimate that about 68 percent of the world’s population has lactose malabsorption.
