#mammothmonday A nice little exhibit on a little mammoth - the Channel Islands pygmy mammoth, Mammuthus exilis - a mandible on display at the Page Museum next to a La Brea M. columbi mandible. These bison-sized mammoths were less than 1/4 the size of their mainland ancestors! 🦖

Today’s #MammothMonday is a celebration of a very recently unearthed mammoth calf’s tooth for the Hills Quarry Products Cerney Wick site by the #tuskforce team last week.

It’s beautiful but it also looks like a mammoth calf!

Happy #MammothMonday! Did you know there were mammoth species other than woollies‽ At least 4, which began to diverge ~1-2MYA, and they’re not even monophyletic; so there may be only one species!
