Today we visited Reichstag Building (Germany) and it was truly an awe-inspiring experience. The architectural design combined with the panoramic views from the dome were simply unforgettable.

Haha mandolins are tuned GDAE, same as a violin. Mandola is tuned CGDA like a viola, hence the name. An octave mandolin is tuned GDAE like a regular mandolin but an octave lower, also hence the name lol. Some of those old Gibsons go for crazy money. If you ever want a rabbit hole look up Lloyd Loar

They had a Gibson Mandola on the antique roadshow last night otherwise I wouldn’t know the difference. Yes, I’m fucking old and watching the antique roadshow.

It’s an Eastman mandolin but yep! Would love to get a Mandola or an octave mandolin but they mostly only come in shitty cheap or wildly expensive custom versions so I’m biding my time to find a decent one used.

Is that a mandola on the wall? You play it?
September 29, 2026 at 9:44 AM
Absolutely. My husband plays the mandolin, mandola, mandocello, etc. A 1917 Gibson! Yes, please. #antiquesroadshow
#AntiquesRoadshow wow a #Gibson #Mandola now that is a really nice piece of American #musical-history

As a mandolin/mandola player, I think this entirely comes from having more than one string in a course.

More strings? Historical, medieval, bardic.

Fewer strings? Modern, chiq, streamlined.

Anyways obligatory disclaimer that this has further complexities and nuances, and the mandola is technically older, and you could argue every single stringed instrument ever is technically a lute

beyond the scope of 300 words to address tho

Herkenbaar. Ik heb ook ooit in een opwelling een mandola gekocht, op Dranouter Festival ergens jaren 90. An sich goed ding, maar speel er nooit op.
