The Medical Association for Prevention of War today condemned the cancellation of a Grand Round on 'Children and War' at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH).The event, scheduled for today, was organised by paediatric specialists as part of routine professional education.Dr Sue Wareham, MAPW President and an invited speaker said, “The reason given by the hospital was that they were concerned about ‘a perception of pro-Palestinian bias’.”“When health workers want to discuss the severe threats to child health and wellbeing in all war zones - whether they be in Palestine or anywhere else - the suppression of legitimate, evidence-based advocacy raises serious concerns.” The cancellation follows a similar decision in September 2025, when the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne cancelled a Grand Round on 'Children and War' which also included Dr Wareham as a speaker. Dr Peter Steer, the RCH CEO who cancelled the event, sits on the PCH board.Leadership at the Fiona Stanley Hospital in Fremantle also abruptly cancelled a planned Grand Round featuring two Palestinian‑Australian doctors who were to speak about their experiences delivering healthcare in Gaza.“Hospitals cite staff sensitivities as the reason for cancellation,” said Dr Wareham. “But the real reason is to avoid any mention of Gaza.” “The scale and rate of children killed and injured in Gaza is unprecedented. It is very disturbing to me that decision-makers in our hospitals would allow adult sensitivities to prevail over our ethical duty to name and address this profound medical and ethical tragedy affecting the most vulnerable of all people.”@perth_doctors_for_palestine @apan4palestine @hsapw2026 @perthmumsforpalestine @aushealthallianceforpalestine @studentsforpalestinewa @hcw4palestinevic @hcw4palestinewa @hcw_against_genocide @paediatricianswithoutborders @a.h.s.p.a.n @panzma__ @freepalestinemelb
