cynical opinion: wall st rely on Dem administrations to fatten up the pig & GOP administrations to slaughter it. This happens via tax changes that allow them to cash out & transfer loot - cap gain, gift & estate tax, IRA games. They don't wanna blow the heist but Elon might wreck the market too fast
they thought it was going to be Trump 1 and they are mostly deeply consensus types, so they're looking to their peers now to see whether they should say anything or not and nobody wants to be the first actor. plus many of them are excited about getting to grope secretaries again.
Again, I don't understand why Fortune 500 & Wall Street CEOs are silent about this. "They want low taxes" & "they're in the tank for Trump" are not convincing explanations. Or, if they are, then they're idiots & we never should have treated them as savvy business genius Masters Of The Universe.

The difference is the equity index fund is rebalanced to adjust to changes in relative market cap while a MBS with a certain percentage of exposure to subprime loans would not have changed its exposure as credit conditions (hence price) deteriorated
