Did a Trim and weed of the Kawaka forest last night

The lead tree on the right seems to be in decline and nothing seems to help so will search for s replacement. Not a common tree though damn it.

Other trees are tītoki and red matipo.

Only vaguely knew of the existence of Kawaka before bonsai after seeing it around one of the dams/walks in Waitakere when my parents took us there on a weekend did not know its name back then, so glad to know it more now.

The lead tree is recovering from drinking too much coolshade at its previous home but shows signs of improvement with nice darker green replacing yellowish foliage previously.

Been a long road getting the new lead tree settled, but looks positive now with extended shoots in some places.
Tītoki oversized compound leaves will be trimmed once new branches establish.

eventually the whole board of trustees resigned in protest because of the poor leadership and high level of staff turnover. he went to work at Matipō school a few years ago and I saw in the news the BOT resigned there too and there was a police complaint. it's hearsay but completely believable

Found a replacement lead Kawaka tree. Instead of replanting into the development tray I went ahead and composed them all in a bonsai pot.
Fit 5 Kawaka, 1 red matipo and 3 Titoki also.
Glad to have maintained the mixed forest i was aiming for.

Nice to see spring growth pushing now.
This was a new NZ tree for me to bonsai about a year ago. Very nice tree so happy I found them. Enjoying learning how to trim and pinch them and how much to take off each time.
Also in the forest is red matipo and tītoki.
