the guess off the top of my head was use MaxEnt and ig it works
No one should be taken seriously when they say things like “update my priors” unless they can explain how to derive the Kalman filter. Desperate times call for desperate measures, people!

Do you have any views of using Area Of Habitat - AOH, instead of Maxent output in spatial conservation prioritisation, like Zonation?

I was just musing this morning in how to get uncertainties from a Bayesian MaxEnt. MCMC is possible in theory, but the design matrix explodes. Possibly importance sampling will work

Maxent produces a map with no error bars, despite there often being great uncertainty in species distributions. We examine the trouble with using Maxent for delimiting species distributions, especially for Red List assessments.

i think Matthias Bal's work is foundational, along with this paper, but my NEAM posts *do* demonstrate a tiny iteration of the landscape, showing you can get LLM like structures from MaxEnt and pure stat mech, so i don't think this is psychosis but it's all near-expertise not perfectly in domain

you basically did when you went hard on spinors. most add MaxEnt tricks to your toolkit and ignore newton entirely and you're at the cutting edge almost

it is interesting that if you derive attention from MaxEnt you explicitly satisfy Lagrange multiplier constraints

you can derive attention from MaxEnt! i actually feel most qualified of all the ML stuff to think about attention in specific
look i only took one quarter of matrix computations and maybe all of bluesky have PhDs in this but i do not think attention, RoPE, SwiGLU, etc are that simple

Congratulations to my former graduate student, Conner Ties, on publishing a chapter from his M.S. thesis as first author! Using iNaturalist data and habitat modeling, Conner identified priority habitat for the rare swift fox in the Texas Panhandle. Proud to see this work published.

java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "-?"
I'm getting an error in Maxent which arises from one of the output files created by Maxent, in this case the _ASCII_novel.asc at row 159 column 444. However, the data in this position appears to be OK. I saw a similar question where the error noted is For input string: "Z^,,," which seemed to be caused by an invalid file type (GeoTiff not .asc), but Maxent didn't seem to have a problem using my .asc files before the output file produced an error, so I don't think this must be the problem. I have run Maxent without my bias file, and this avoids the error. If it's of any help the rest of the error reads: at sun.misc.FloatingDecimal.readJavaFormatString(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.FloatingDecimal.parseFloat(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Float.parseFloat(Unknown Source) at density.MyScanner.nextFloat(MyScanner.java:46) at density.LazyGrid.readRowAsc(LazyGrid.java:166) at density.LazyGrid.readRow(LazyGrid.java:74) at density.LazyGrid.eval(LazyGrid.java:87) at density.LazyGrid.hasData(LazyGrid.java:81) at density.Grid.minmax(Grid.java:156) at density.tools.Novel.makeNovel(Novel.java:134) at density.tools.Novel.go(Novel.java:99) at density.Runner.makeNovel(Runner.java:618) at density.Runner.start(Runner.java:563) at density.GUI$7.construct(GUI.java:342) at density.SwingWorker$2.run(SwingWorker.java:131) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
