A whitethroat yo-yos above luxuriant scrub, utters a string of loud scratchy notes. Maythorn and nettle scents hit heavy in the still warmth of lee-side cover.

Actually, I'm almost positive Maythorn is what was used on the hardbacks!

Maythorn Regular feels close, with those distinct L and Es?
January 10, 2026 at 4:53 PM
Yeah, still a brilliant find! How did you do it?

(I guess it's even possible Maythorn was based *ON THE TOLKIEN COVER TYPE DESIGN*)

Maythorn actually looks *very* close to the Hardbacks of the same era (Silmarillion, LOTR)

Ask Filippos.

He's the designer of Maythorn Regular.

“He showed some promise of maybe rising to a middle management position one day, but sadly he chopped up his brain into lines and left most of it on the cistern of a strip club toilet in Florida. He fell into politics…”

The font files might be from 2010 with an older design. Fonts based on 16th century type might "say" they're from the 1980s, for example :-)

Or Maythorn might have copied an older design.

Friday’s got a bit of a swelter on, so why not end your week with something else a little 🥵?

(And silly, and intermittently violent)

Love, longing, impact play, and some incredibly bad ideas in The Forthenby Inheritance: forthenby.com/chapter-1/

"Tilt To The Maythorn" (or some of it) as it was in Belfast a couple weeks back. The original version is on my album Swing Hosanna, Sing The Salt, which you'll find linked up in the link thing in my bio thing, if anyone's asking.

Teddy Valance has problems. His plans for revenge have backfired, he’s engaged to a woman who hates him, while his ex is wanted for murder.

Can he and Peaches find a way out of this? Or are they just going to make things worse?

So, a bit about me - I’m W.G. Maythorn or Dissembling Cub. I’m a transmasc author, and this is my alt account/pen name for #erotica and #smut, often with a historic, queer or BDSM tone.

I’m kinda new here, but have been on Twitter for a while.

The Forthenby Inheritance is an erotic comedy of manners following the misadventures of one Edward ‘Teddy’ Valance. It’s a queer, kinky, romp through the regency full of sex, violence, and anachronism.

Read it here: forthenby.com/chapter-1/

Anyway, that’s the shape of it, and I’ll be posting updates here and on the site until then - but otherwise join me in September for a new round of nonsense.

Until then, the whole of The Forthenby Inheritance is available to read, for #free, online: forthenby.com/chapter-1/
