John started his cycle journalism career with MBUK in 1988. And he became a journo, he’d often tell me, because my bike reviews in an earlier magazine were so bad. He wasn't wrong.

I must say, it's quite nice! I'm still getting used to the extra keys to the sides of the main key cluster

MBUK Warned that the steel plates are misaligned, and had delays because of it, but I can't find the misalignment anywhere...

I also have a pile of extra screws, so I probably built it wrong.

remember Andrew Dodd putting that tip in an mbuk issue many years back.

I've still got MBUK magazines from the early 90s. So cool to sit and flick through.

Mint Sauce in MBUK used to have a running gag about vampire sheep that graze your bones.

My Offroad Cycling OG died this week my Step Dad's brother, who I've known for nearly 40 years...
His off-road cycling wasn't gnar or yeh it was very much the Geoff Apps explore the country see what happening around you, it was the polar opposite of MBUK when I was 15.

Really? Wow. Money can’t buy taste, eh?
I noticed it has a “K-for-Kettering” registration, which covers MBUK headquarters, and also the lease processing centre in Corby, as opposed to “S-for-Scotland”, which I’d expect up here.

Very familiar with the MBUK/DCUK presence in MK; were a client of the office in a former life... (and of course MK is in Buckinghamshire, not Bedfordshire; always struck me as odd that Bedfordshire's County Town got its postcodes from a not-the-county town in a neighbouring county...)

People used to laugh when I told them there was a right way to fall off a bike, but seriously, understanding what causes a crash and how to react can make the difference between you walking away laughing, or being put into the back of an ambulance! #mtb

Oh. That's so sad. John invited me, via Brant, to work as a kind of Work at Height Safety Officer on an MBUK D-day themed photo shoot. I was so bad (no one died) I'm surprised he didn't decide to become one too. I remember other acts of generosity and humour at a few events from that time.

A Mint Sauce book! Quite a lot of my cycling philosophy was formed reading these strips in MBUK. Can't wait to read it: www.isolapress.com/shop/mint-sa...

The legendary Coombes? Recall an mbuk article about them. I don't drive, otherwise I'd be accessing the trail network around kielder village more often. There used to be a bike bus, which was a brilliant way to get there, sadly gone, now. I'm not up to an 18 mile hack each way, anymore.

I was overheard describing one as “a Navara in drag” by the MBUK light commercial PR lady. I got a lighthearted telling off then lent one for a week.
The little-engined X250d was very slow, but really quite a nice cruiser for a week.
No interior storage, which was really annoying.

Kelsey Media buys BikeRadar, Cycling Plus and MBUK
Kelsey Media, a UK publisher with over 60 titles, including Triathlon Plus, has acquired the cycling portfolio of Our Media, the Bristol-based publisher. The deal covers BikeRadar, and print titles Cycling Plus and MBUK, along with the associated newsletters, communities and content archives. Commenting on the deal, Steve Kendall, Kelsey Media's CEO said: "This acquisition represents an exciting milestone for our business and demonstrates our confidence in the long-term strength of the cycling market. These brands have built trusted relationships with passionate audiences over many years. "Cycling continues to attract highly engaged communities, and we are committed to delivering exceptional content and experiences that inform, inspire, and connect riders. We will look to invest in audience engagement, digital innovation, events, memberships, and new commercial opportunities." Our Media's chief executive Andy Marshall said the decision to sell the assets followed a review earlier this year, which concluded that the titles would be better served under new ownership. The sale is the latest in a run of ownership changes for these titles. Future Publishing sold the group – then BikeRadar, Cycling Plus, MBUK and Procycling – to Immediate Media in 2014. The Bristol-based specialist titles, including the cycling portfolio, were split into their own business unit in 2021 and rebranded as Our Media the following year.

It's a comic strip about a mountain biking sheep & his pals from the MBUK magazine. Some of the character design echoes a bit, and the seasons are also a constant theme. There's an exhaustive archive at www.thisiswhy.co.uk if you're interested
