I’m a meadmaker. I started keeping bees to help a farmer friend increase pollination, but I expanded my apiary to get enough honey to make mead -literally nectar (of the gods)

friend of mine who is an award winning meadmaker made a Pyment out of a Minnesota grape called LaCrescent which is tarter due to the shorter growing season up here, and wildflower honey, and it was one of the more amazing things I have drank.

oh and Captain, if your mead burns it means the meadmaker fucked up the process. it shouldn't burn unless you're trying for a hot pepper mead...

Somebody got huffy with me once when I described myself as a meadmaker. I do in fact make mead, and it's not like I was claiming "brew master."

At work today, a customer came up to get 4-5 glass bottles. I asked him what they were for and he said it was to bottle mead and it was his first time brewing. As a meadmaker myself, he and I talked shortly, but I genuinely hope to see him again.

so, the BJCP mead exam handout was free and v detailed. Platz's book had the recipe i used to start (i just used storebought clover honey rather than a varietal, because no sense getting fancy if you know your stuff). if you keep an eye out, you can get carboys cheap. good luck mead brewing. :>
