The only dragonflies around these days are autumn meadowhawks, and most of them are busy making more autumn meadowhawks #bugs #dragonflies

I've seen autumn & yellow-legged meadowhawks in December! Only once but they're always the last dragons flying in my area (New England). Aren't they pretty? Their female friends are a brownish yellow.

It’s mating season
for striped meadowhawks, finding
a safe spot, deep grass.

#Dragonfly season is quickly passing. This #red #autumn meadowhawk perched on the bamboo sticks we have placed around the garden for their benefit. #ColorADay #RedWed #Insects #Invertebrates #Macro #PNW #ECK #GoOutside #Breathe #Notice #YouMatter

Variegated meadowhawks (Sympetrum corruptum) in wheel. They were flying when I first saw them, but that must get tiring. Photo taken in Albuquerque on September 18, 2026.

What we have here is a failure to communicate... Male & female yellow-legged meadowhawks. That tiny triangular bit toward the end of her abdomen is how she drops her fertilized eggs! (Normally they're pretty enthusiastic.)

Always nice to see
variegated meadowhawks
on their way southward.

They’re autumn meadowhawks, apparently. The red one is a male, and this, evidently, is the nature of their embrace.

More of the little brown dragonflies all over my yard. Super chill and will readily land on you if you look like you'll provide a good view. I think these are meadowhawks.

Saw a nice variety of dragonflies around today including a big flashy green darner. But they're just 100% zoom zoom.

I think they might be one of the few meadowhawks with yellow legs instead of black, so a great clue to its ID!

Oh, thanks for the confirmation and species ID! There are many different Meadowhawks and the Autumn Meadowhawk is the one we seem to have most here in WI. I did not know they are also called yellow-legged! Thanks much!

Band-winged meadowhawks are plentiful in the yard now. The yellow females pose for me more often than the red males. #StunDay #SundayYellow #Dragonfly #Nature #Wildlife
