Hot take: farmers in Somalia - where mechanization is very low - successfully meet higher cognitive demands than farmers in Western countries
This is to say nothing of the idea that you could have any society - even one as troubled as Somalia - where the average IQ is 70 is preposterous. This implies an agricultural workforce with an IQ of 50.
People with IQs of 50 can't farm.

That's definitely what they think, but like, the idea of a shadowy cabal of elite conspirators cooking up a master plan that relied on the cooperation of a demographic with a median IQ of 70 is almost *more* ridiculous.

the most effective way to change people's perceptions of the German army's mechanization in WW2 would be for video games to put a lot more horses in their depiction of the Eastern Front - and to make mechanized units rarer and more expensive.
It's one of those facts that I've seen "blowing peoples' minds" on social media every 3 years or so, leading me to conclude that collectively we learn nothing *about* history, much less from it.

The luddites worked at home, with their families, where they had the freedom to set their own schedules, or in small shops with their peers. One of the main things luddites were fighting against was the *creation* of sweatshop conditions, which was only enabled by mass mechanization + factorization!
I also pine for the days of working in sweatshops. Bring back those fair wages and pleasant conditions!
